Biceps tenodesis (soft tissue type)

A new suture passing device--the Chia-- can be used to perform a soft tissue type of tenodesis by which the biceps tendon is sewn to the adjacent supraspinatus tendon and rotator interval. This is a nice alternative to a bony type of tenodesis and minimizes the risk of post-tentomy popeye deformity in the biceps muscle.

1. An 18 gauge needle is passed through the supraspinatus and biceps tendons
2. Chia suture passer is placed through the needle and retrieved through the anterosuperior cannula
3. #2 orthocord suture is passed
4. Needle is passed again
5. Biceps tenotomy is performed with an arthroscopic scissors
6. Both suture limbs are identified in the subacromial space and retrieved from the posterior portal while viewing from the lateral cannula
7. The suture limbs are passed out the lateral cannula and knots are tied
8. Completed tenodesis knot
