Diagnostic Arthroscopy

October 13th, 2007

The technique of shoulder arthroscopy provides a minimally invasive way to assess the inside of the shoulder for a wide variety of pathology--both in the glenohumeral joint and beneath the acromion (the bursal side of the rotator cuff).

The video below shows a view inside the joint. I can assess for arthritis, labral tears, capsular laxity, rotator cuff tears, synovitis, biceps tendonopathy and loose bodies. Most importantly, arthroscopic techniques allow me to treat your problem at the same setting without the need for incisions in excess of 1 cm.

The Beach chair positioner allows you to sit comfortably during your arthroscopic procedure. I use a regional block so that your shoulder and arm are numb for 6-8 hours, and this usually obviates the need for a breathing tube
